Balingsholm, with its proximity to the capital city and the beautiful nature around Södertörn, is an excellent choice for your meetings. Our guests usually say, “This is the countryside but almost in the city…” We offer good food and peace and quiet as well as forests and lakes, which are only a stone’s throw from the manor house.

The surrounding nature countryside is almost completely untouched, which makes the estate almost unique in the Stockholm region. One of the advantages of being near the capital is the good communications. You can get to Balingsholm quickly and easily, either by car or by public transport, by commuter train to Huddinge C or alternatively by mainline train to Flemingsberg.

HISTORY
From royal manor to conference centre

The manor house was erected in 1906 by xxx Tisell, a well-known builder for his own use, and was later acquired by the royal court as a residence for Gustaf V’s youngest son, Prince Erik, who lived here up until 1916.

Balingsholm was then acquired by Frank Hirsch, a prominent engineer and industrialist. For the first few years the family used Balingsholm as a summer residence, and after restoring the house Frank Hirsch moved here with his wife Ina and daughter Karin. It is the Hirsch family that has left its mark on the character and charm that the old manor house still has, even today.

Over the door Frank Hirsch engraved the text:

“The whole world lies embroiled in war,
May this house remain for ever in peace.”
1916 * 17

Balingsholm was sold in 1964 to Huddinge municipality, which was initially mainly interested in the land that belonged to the estate, as it had plans to construct apartment buildings.

As things turned out, not many apartments were built; instead, there is still a working farm on the estate outside the park. During the twenty years that Huddinge owned Balingsholm, the estate was hired out for parties and banquets. In 1984 the municipality decided to sell the estate to the Soviet Embassy (Russia). However the residents of Huddinge protested and the municipality had to reverse its decision and auction off the estate.

There are beautiful, historical pictures of Balingsholm at the Stockholm County Museum.

Gerd Gustafzon outbid the competition, and soon started a total renovation of the building. The original buildings have been restored and extended to provide comfortable and functional premises for meetings. The present conference activities were started on 4th March 1985.

Balingsholm is now owned and run by Lottie Orrvik. Today Balingsholm is a modern conference centre that is recognised for its quality, and known for its surroundings, its fine country cuisine and good service.
